Pest Free Token is a charitable project utilising blockchain technology to help New Zealand become predator free by 2050.
About Pest Free Token
We deploy traps, fund pest eradication initiatives, and raise community awareness.
The Problem? Without technology, our native birds wonāt survive.
Approximately 50 native birds die every minute of every day. At that rate, future generations will not recognise the sights and sounds of our precious wildlife, including tūī, kererÅ«, and kÄkÄ.
We must think differently if we are going to tackle our nationās problem with predators, like possums, stoats, and rats. An innovative approach is necessary.
The Solution? PFT; New Zealandās first charitable cryptocurrency
The project has two elements; PFT pest traps, and PFT crypto tokens.
Our cryptocurrency, the Pest Free Token (PFT), is a deflationary token with a 3% tax. That tax is distributed between holders, liquidity, and the Pest Free Token Trust - with 100% of trust funds being used for pest eradication.
In addition to our token, our charity builds and distributes physical pest traps (called PFT traps). Our mission is to get a PFT trap in every suburb of New Zealand. When someone catches a pest in their trap, we will reward them with free PFT crypto tokens (simply scan the QR code on the top of the trap). This incentivises catching pests and gamifies the project. It also gives our cryptocurrency real world application. The Pest Free Token is New Zealandās first charitable cryptocurrency. We are pioneering the use of this technology in New Zealandās charitable space.
š« Team Values: Transparency, Community, Integrity, and Service.
Founding Story
Pest Free Token was born out of a founderās problem ā What more can we do to save our native birds? The global crypto market is huge. If a small percentage went to pest eradication it would change the game. The Pest Free Token project launched in April 2022 with the sole purpose of helping New Zealand reach its 2050 predator free targets. The project was founded by Wellington Lawyer, Patrick Abel, and Wellington IT specialist, Alex McGregor. After launch, Harrison Bissell and Harry Satoshi joined. All four are avid pest trappers and crypto enthusiasts. 100% of the projectās profit goes to pest eradication. The team take no wage to make sure the project can have a greater impact. Next Steps
We are working on a business case to move our project further onto the blockchain.
This would include having trap deployments, catches, and reward payments added to the blockchain for transparency and automation. If we want to become predator free by 2050 we must utilise technology, and this innovative move has wider application potential for New Zealand.
This move would likely see us shift from the Binance Smart Chain (BSC) to the Polygon chain. Polygon offers smart contracts that are feature rich enabling seamless integration between Web 3 and the blockchain, including dApps. This opportunity will take the Pest Free Token project to a new level in technology and blockchain usage.

The Web3 Opportunity
Web3 offers a level of transparency and automation not previously possible. Being a charitable project, transparency is a big factor for us. The success of our charitable Web3 utilisation can be replicated to other projects.
New Zealandās Web3 Superpower
New Zealandās superpower is its ability to deliver outside the box thinking and challenge the status quo. The ecosystem requires further support for small projects with legitimate purposes.
